The initiative was introduced to translate the traceability, certifications, as well as the environmental and social impact of the company’s ingredients simply, effectively and transparently; empowering customers to make more eco-conscious decisions. This accolade underscores dsm-firmenich’s unwavering dedication to helping businesses in the pharmaceutical and human health arena achieve their sustainability targets and distinguish themselves in the market with environmentally-friendly pharmaceuticals that safeguard both people and the planet.
dsm-firmenich’s recently launched Sustainability Imp’Act Card™ program demonstrates the company’s commitment to offering cutting-edge ingredients with transparent and science-backed sustainability credentials. Leveraging dsm-firmenich’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) expertise, which quantifies the environmental impact of a product, technology or process across its entire life cycle, the Sustainability Imp’Act Card™ program accurately calculates and presents ingredients’ sustainability qualifications, including carbon and water footprint. The metrics can be translated into consumer-facing claims, bolstering customers’ own green credentials. Given the pharmaceutical sector’s sizeable carbon footprint, the Sustainability Imp’Act Card™ program represents a proactive effort to support an industry characterized by greater transparency and more informed decision-making when it comes to eco-friendly standards.
Kelsey Achenbach, Senior Director Pharma and Medical Nutrition, dsm-firmenich, comments "We’re immensely proud for having achieved a finalist position in the sustainability category of the CPHI Awards. dsm-firmenich is recognized for leading the way in integrating sustainability into its operations and business strategy. However, being named a finalist alongside so many other incredible businesses is a true honor. This success is testament to our unwavering dedication to go above and beyond the standards required to help our customers advance human health more sustainably. We understand that profound industry transformations cannot happen overnight. But we do believe that by taking one step at a time, and through the accumulation of smaller actions, we can collectively build a more environmentally responsible future. The Sustainability Imp’Act Card™ program is just one important component.”
In the next phase of the program, dsm-firmenich is preparing to launch Imp’Act calculators for its Premix Solutions. Nevertheless, the company’s green initiatives transcend its Sustainability Imp’Act Card™ program. It has deeply woven five of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its strategic fabric. These objectives include achieving zero hunger, promoting good health and wellbeing, minimizing waste, taking decisive climate action and making affordable, renewable energy a reality. As a newly combined organization, dsm-firmenich is in the process of integrating two sets of ambitious sustainability targets
