The new facility will focus on the production of Siemens Healthineers’ pioneering DryCool MRI magnets, which drastically reduce the amount of helium needed in MRI scanners from 1,500 liters to less than a single liter. The innovation aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability, addressing the critical global shortage of helium with a solution that also makes MRI installations more feasible across varied geographic and economic landscapes.
"Our colleagues in Oxfordshire have consistently been at the forefront of medical imaging innovation," said Bernd Montag, CEO of Siemens Healthineers. "The establishment of this new center marks the start of a transformative era in healthcare where advanced, sustainable technologies are within reach for everyone, everywhere."
The inauguration ceremony was notably attended by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, underscoring the project’s significance to the local economy and its alignment with the UK’s healthcare and manufacturing goals. The center is expected to create 1,300 skilled jobs, significantly boosting local employment and reinforcing Siemens Healthineers' dedication to its operations in the UK.
"This is more than an investment in Siemens Healthineers—it’s an investment in the future of global healthcare. We are deeply honored by the presence of Prime Minister Sunak and Chancellor Hunt, and grateful for their support," Montag added.
As MRI scanners become more compact, lightweight, and easier to install, Siemens Healthineers continues to break barriers in medical technology. This development not only enhances the efficiency and availability of life-saving diagnostics but also supports the company’s vision of pioneering breakthroughs in healthcare sustainably.
"We are excited for the future and commend our #TeamHealthineers for their relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence," concluded Montag.
