Merck, a leading science and technology company, announced the official opening of its new Life Science manufacturing facility in Blarney, Ireland. This milestone reinforces Merck’s in-region-for-region strategy by manufacturing closer to where customers operate, strengthening global supply resilience, and enabling faster delivery of critical products.
The Blarney site will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable access to essential filtration technologies that biopharmaceutical companies need to produce life-saving therapies. As Merck’s first climate-neutral manufacturing facility, the site is powered entirely by renewable electricity and incorporates advanced water recycling and CO₂ reduction systems, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable operations.
“Blarney is more than a new facility—it embodies our purpose of impacting life and health with science,” said Jean-Charles Wirth, Member of the Executive Board and CEO of Life Science at Merck Group. “By strengthening supply chains in Europe and pioneering climate-neutral manufacturing, we are ensuring that patients worldwide have reliable access to critical therapies while advancing our sustainability goals.”
The investment reflects Merck’s dedication to building robust, sustainable, and customer-centric operations in Europe. By locating production closer to customers, the company aims to shorten lead times, enhance supply security, and deepen partnerships with the global biopharma community.
With this milestone, Merck further strengthens Europe’s role in shaping the future of global biopharmaceutical manufacturing and underscores its mission to deliver science that makes a real difference to people’s lives.
