Vivani Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: VANI) ("Vivani" or the "Company"), an innovative biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of innovative drug implants with ultra-prolong action, announced the signing of a new agreement with Novo Nordisk authorizing it to evaluate the NPM-139, the semade-based drug implant developed by the Company. The NPM-139, based on Vivani's NanoPortal™ platform technology, is being developed for the treatment of obesity. Neither the NPM-139 agreement nor Vivani's exclusive NanoPortal technology associated with this agreement are subject to exclusivity clauses.
Adam Mendelsohn, Ph.D., President and CEO of Vivani, said: “The new agreement presented today, which supports our program of semaglutide-based implants for the treatment of obesity, reflects Novo Nordisk's interest in evaluating our technology and its flagship application of semaglutide. It strengthens our confidence in the commercial potential of our GLP-1-based implants currently under development. We believe that our NanoPortal implants under development, including NPM-139, could meet the needs of a growing number of patients looking for a practical therapeutic option, administered once or twice a year, while offering them the opportunity to stop treatment at any time if necessary. "
In addition, Vivani plans to launch, in mid-2026, a randomized phase I study to evaluate the NPM-139 semaglutide-based implant, with Wegovy® in injectable solution as an active comparator. This study will aim to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and tolerance of NPM-139, in order to allow the launch of a phase II study to determine the optimal dosage, subject to conclusive results of the phase I study.
